Harold: A Wise but Unpretentious Man

Paperback

Tricia Davies

Part memoir, part biography, Harold: A Wise but Unpretentious Man tells stories and memories from the life of a man named Harold. Harold lived an ordinary life full of the same sorts of ups and downs that others might experience and subject to the vagaries of the times he lived through. Harold lived a long life. He remained deeply engaged with the world, and the goings on of that world, right up to his death at the age of 98. Here are stories Harold told and memories he shared with his family, friends and acquaintances, giving glimpses of those people and things which influenced and informed him through his long life. Influences which enabled him, between his birth in 1920 and his death in 2018, to become a wise but unpretentious man. Harold's stories show how every life, not just the lives of the famous or infamous, can be influential, confirming that we are all important. Therefore, Harold is identified only by his first name because his identity is secondary to the messages that these glimpses from his life convey.

The 23 short vignettes that comprise Harold: A Wise but unpretentious Man, are grouped into four sections, each section linked to a piece of music played at Harold's funeral. While the book can be read as a single piece of writing each of the short vignettes stands alone as a tale in its own right. Harold: A Wise but Unpretentious Man is a short insight into a very long life.
